2007 March  - SSME 101st Birthday Celebrations 

SSME celebrated its 101st birthday with an invitation to all 1 years olds and their family to join in on the day.


2006 All Year - SSME Centenary Celebrations 

During 2006 the SSME is celebrating its Centenary year 1906-2006.

There are special events and displays at every Open Day during 2006 to celebrate this milestone. Every section of Model Park has something extra during this period. Click 'Calendar' on menu for details.


April 2006 - 50th Annual AALS Convention

During Easter 14~17th April 2006, the SSME hosted the 50th Annual AALS convention as part of the SSME centenary celebrations. The convention attracted visitors from all states of Australia, as well as visitors from NZ, USA, Europe and UK. In all, approx 170 locomotives and models participated in this event.

April 2006 - New Steaming Bays Completed

New Steaming Bays
New Steaming BaysThe new  steaming bays were completed in late March just in time for the AALS convention. Here they are put to use servicing some of the visiting locos during the convention.

March 2006 - Official Launch of SSME Centenary Celebrations

On  Open Day, Sunday 26th March 2006, Her Excellency Professor Marie Bashir AC, Governor of New South Wales, officially launched the SSME Centenary Celebrations. The Governor and the President of SSME, John Hill, unveiled a special plaque to commemorate this important occasion.

The Penrith Valley Concert Band performed during the day to a large crowd, and the launch of the book of the official history of the first 100 years of the Society took place, with the first copy being presented to the Governor.

RedcoatsThe Red Coats, complete with their traditional uniforms and muskets, and several vintage car clubs were also present.

A display from the Powerhouse Museum was also at SSME, with a sample of their live steam and model engine collection for all to enjoy.


February 2006 - New Turntable

The new turntable is taking shape, and foundations for the new roundhouse and steaming bays being put into place.
